Greeting Cards

I did a whole bunch of break-up greeting cards. I wrote the lines and did the watercolours myself. Where does this whole idea come from? hmmm...not sure really, maybe past experiences buried and hidden deep down somewhere ;)
They're more for fun than anything else. I like the reaction people give me when i show them ;)
I also made hand painted broken wooden hearts to display with the cards. They are for sale in our agency store at the moment but I am in the process of taking them to exclusive books so that they can hopefully stock them.

Fun Stuff

The following items are things I did just for fun ;)

These are Valentines Day Posters I did for our agency Valentines Day Party. The theme being Trailer Trash Love;)

This is a lamp I made from matress springs, fake roses and faerie lights. the white lights in the back stay lit and don't flicker, where the red lights within the heart of roses do flicker, as if it were a beating heart.

I did the following designs for a local clothing brand called Iron Fist.

Translate SA Logo Design

Translate SA is an organisation that is involved in translating greeting cards in all eleven official languages.

Sowearto Fashion Emporium Design Campaign

Sowearto is a South African clothing store in the heart of Jozi. It is a play on the local township of 'Soweto' and clothing, ie 'wear'. All the clothing is a combination of contemporary design with a local flavour. Afro-Chic as it were.

I decided to design the brand look around the recognisable local icon, Chappies Chewing gum. I used this as a step-&-repeat pattern to resemble that of the 'wallpaper' used in township shacks like Soweto. We had metres of fabric printed with the step-&-repeat logo pattern and had various relevant garments made for each of the corporate stationary elements. A tie for the business card, hat for the letterhead, slip dress for the compliment slip, and folder that folds up like you would fold a shirt.

The invitation to the launch party was a tin can that we had sealed with various local sweets including Chappies.

The bags were cost effective brown bags, with a simple sticker that said "Spykos" meaning township takeaways. I also did instore posters that we shot in Soweto itself.

Virgin Money Launch in SA

Black River F.C. won the Virgin Money account in 2005. It was such an exciting and awesome experience to design everything from scratch for this already reputable brand in South Africa. I designed most of the BTL elements including the credit cards, brochures, the various welcome packs, courier uniforms, background patterns, corporate identity and other collateral items. The Virgin brand is well known for their sexiness and quirky sense of humour. These characteristics appealed to my type of humour and inspired me to write some of my own copy lines on a few of the elements. The business cards, the welcome pack, button badges and the envelope stickers, just to name a few.

Sales Brochure

Credit Cards

Courier Uniform

Welcome Pack (VIP Envelope)
The welcome packs are delivered once an application for a credit card has been made and approved. The pack consist of a welcome brochure, a terms & conditions brochure, and your new credit card.

Welcome Pack (Jewellery Box)
The Welcome Brochure (white) and the T&C brochure both have an embossed logo and a spot UV varnish of the pattern.

Stationary (General)

Compliment Slip

Envelopes & Envelope Stickers
Virgin Money wanted their envelopes to have a "Virginesque" appeal to it. So instead a costly expense of printing many envelopes with Virgin "quirky" lines on, I decided to make a sticker sheet with various copy lines on that both seal the envelope and create a new "Virginesque" everytime someone opened a VM envelope.

Collateral (Notebooks, Tear-Off Memo Rolls, Button Badges, Coasters etc...)

Blingola TV Ad
Ok so if i was to be totally honest, I'd have to say that I didn't really have much to do with this. Just my occasional 2 cents worthwhen a diamante was out of lace or something. The reason that i have included it here is just so one can get a full impact of the campaign and how some of the BTL elements were carried thru to the ATL.

For the ATL we created a ficticious pimping, glamourous VIP African country based on the excessive lifestyles of the rich and famous. We called it Blingola...

Black River F.C. Corporate ID & Collateral

Black River Football Club is a Johannesburg based advertising agency that is a division of The Jupiter Drawing Room Cape Town.

Black River F.C. started a retail space that provides people within the agency (not just creatives) an opportunity to make and sell things in the store. Hand-painted pots, jewellery, paintings, and knitted scarves for example. I made Break-Up Greeting Cards (see SIM Cards)

Nando's

When Black River F.C. first started we consisted of 2 writers (one being our Creative Director Ahmed Tilly) an art director and myself. So we all brainstormed and got involved with everything together. Basically i did everything from design to dish washing. I loved this whole experience as it gave me a chance to work on Television and a number of new areas that i hadn't had experience in.
Nando's itself is such an open-minded client that we could get away with launching their New Espetada in a cheeky and fun way.
Everything from instore to TV.

FFW Website Look & Feel

First For Women Insurance Brokers is a financial institution that predominantly caters for women. I suggested that the brand needed a desperate 'revamp'.
Since their main objective is to drive people to their website, I thought this should be the starting block. Previously, the website lacked structure and the images used were all incredibly cheesy, irrelevant stock images. So I designed an easy to apply template that would be used throughout the site. I then conceptualised and art directed 10 shots for the various insurance products. I wanted to make these images modern and edgy with high fashion editorial-type shots that would be a relevant
eye-candy 'Feast For Women'.

Examples are in order: Vehicle Insurance, Home Insurance, Business Insurance, Vehicle Touch-Up, Competitions, FFW Trust (Charity), General Info, Update Your Policy, Car Claims, Contact Page.

The new FFW logo is also one that i designed and the site has now been updated with it. View the actual site at www.ffw.co.za
